Pilot: Networking on Water, Health and Sanitation in Moldova

Financed by Ministry of Environment (VROM), the Netherlands

Common initiative of WfWP (sub)members in Moldova and WfWP Secretariat

To build a successful Water & Health pilot project of Moldova by linking the setting of

targets with concrete projects

The next step was to discuss together what is needed to realise this initiative and who could do what. Who plays which role. The needs could be categorised in 5 themes.

The request of the Ministry of Environment in the Netherlands to develop sustainable networks in the EECCA region with optimal use of the local knowledge and capacity, aiming for development of concrete project proposals with the commitment of (local) governments and stakeholders, for the Ad Hoc Project Facilitation Mechanism under the WHO Protocol on Water & Health links closely with the vision of WfWP on the EECCA region. A number of international trends in water management converged for WfWP in its vision for water and sanitation in the EECCA countries.

A number of countries have taken a stand for the implementation of the WHO Protocol and the Facilitation Mechanism. The Protocol’s ambition is to use non-traditional methods in practice, in contrast to many other initiatives in the areas of water, sanitation and health. One of the wishes is to have projects/initiatives proposed by NGOs to be funded directly by the Protocol, rather than the government by definition taking the leading role.

The Association of Business Professional Women  (BPW-M) in Moldova  to cooperate in this initiative and to develop projects which can be submitted to the Ad Hoc Project Facilitation Mechanism. The Soroptimists in Moldova are active e.g. in the international theme of Soroptimists International: “Soroptimists go for water”
